MARZO/ABRIL PROGRAMAS

Note: Photographs and video taken during events may be used for library publicity.

Due to an increased interest in our Children’s programming and the limited space allotted, some of our programs will be ticketed events.  Come check-in at the Children’s Library 15 minutes prior to the start of the program to pick up your ticket. Ticketed programs will not have advance registration and are first come, first served. One ticket per child.

ONGOING

CIRCLE TIME AND TOY CENTER

Fridays, 10:30 – 11:30
For children ages 6 months to 4 years of age. 15 minutes of songs, finger plays and stories, plus some play time for you to share with your child. Meet other parents and caregivers.
** There will be No Circle Time on March 30th **

1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN

This free program encourages you to read 1,000 books to your child before they enter kindergarten – a goal experts say children need to help them learn to read for themselves.  Read three picture books a night and you will finish the program within a year!  See a Children’s Librarian for more information.

SCIENCE FOR KIDS

Tuesday, February 20 at 2pm
Calling all future scientists!  Come take part in different science activities. For children in 3rd to 6th grade.

KIDS BOOK CHAT

Wednesday, February 21 at 6:15pm
Chat with Miss Liz about the book The Farmer and the Clown and other wordless picture books. If you would like to read a copy of The Farmer and the Clown before the program, ask a librarian to reserve a copy for you. For children in Kindergarten to 3rd grade.

IMAGINATION PLAYGROUND

Thursday, February 22
Session 1: 2pm for children 4 years old to 2nd grade
Session 2: 3pm for children in 3rd to 6th grade
Come build with Imagination Playground building blocks! Work together to build life-size objects in our meeting room using large interlocking blocks. Please register in advance, space is limited.

COZY STORYTIME

Wednesday, February 28 at 6:15pm
Find a cozy spot and listen to stories read by Miss Liz. For children in 2nd grade and up.

TOY CHEST MONDAYS

Mondays in March and April from 10:30am-11:30am
Spend the morning playing with your toddler! We’ll bring out the toy chest. For children 6 months to 4 years old.

1, 2, 3 PLAY WITH ME

Thursday, March 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 at 10am
Bring your toddler to the meeting room each week to play and learn using toys that develop motor skills. Each week, there will be an art activity and an expert on-hand to answer questions about child rearing. Materials are available in English and Spanish. Please register in advance, space is limited. For children ages 1, 2 and 3 years old.

HEALTH & SAFETY NIGHT

Monday, March 5th
5:30pm-8pm—Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council will be here to assist families applying for health insurance for the first time or those needing to recertify. Assistance is free and provided on a first come, first served basis. Se habla Español.
6pm-8pm—NY Life will be on-hand to sign up your child for a Child ID.
6:30pm-7:30pm—We will learn about nutrition with a special craft and healthy snack.

ALIEN PINCH POTS

Wednesday, March 7 & 14 at 6pm
We will be using air-dry modeling clay to make pinch pots and painting them to look like aliens the following week! This is a two-part program, must attend both sessions. Please register in advance. Space is limited. For children in 3rd to 6th grade.

TODDLER STORYTIME

Tuesday, March 13 at 6:15pm
Join Miss Andrea for fifteen minutes of stories, songs and finger plays followed by a craft! Please register in advance. For children ages 18 months to 3 years old.

BUILD IT

Monday, March 19 at 6pm
The Long Island Children’s Museum will be here to teach us about different structures. Children will be building their own freestanding structure using modeling clay and toothpicks! Please register in advance, space is limited. For children in Kindergarten to 3rd grade.

BENIHANA: SUSHI MAKING

Saturday, March 24
Session 1: 11am for Kindergarten to 2nd grade
Session 2: 12:30pm for 3rd to 6th grade
Learn how to make California rolls and enjoy a tasty sample made by a chef from Benihana! Children will also be making their own candy sushi. Please register in advance, space is limited.

CUENTOS Y CANCIONES: BILINGUAL STORYTIME

Tuesday, March 27 & Thursday, April 5 at 6:15pm
Come listen to stories read in Spanish and English followed by a craft at the library! For children 4 years old up to 2nd grade.

TOTS NIGHT OUT

Thursday, March 29 at 7pm

EGG HUNT

Friday, March 30 at 11am
The chick eggs are back! Join us for an egg hunt and craft in celebration of our chicks! Please register in advance. For children up to 6th grade.

MARSHMALLOW BUILDING

Tuesday, April 3 at 2pm
Build a structure using only marshmallows and toothpicks! Please register in advance. For children in 1st to 6th grade.

MAKE IT AND TAKE IT

Wednesday, April 4 from 11am to 2pm
Come make a craft at the library to take home! While supplies last. For children up to 6th grade.

PUPPET PLAYTIME

Monday, April 9 at 11am
Come listen to stories, sing songs and play games using fun props during this high-energy, interactive musical puppet variety show! Meet new puppet friends and be a part of the show, just like the puppets! For children up to 4 years old.

FAMILY TEA PARTY

Wednesday, April 11 at 6pm
You’re invited to a Family Tea Party with Chefs of d’Future! Children with their families will be making tea sandwiches, decorating cookies and preparing a beverage. Please register in advance, space is limited. For children 4 years old up to 6th grade.

TOTS DANCE PARTY

Thursday, April 12 at 7pm
Get ready to sing, dance and play with your toddler or preschoolers! Play Hooray will be here to present a 45-minute interactive themed program designed to encourage cooperation, good manners and fun! Please register in advance, space is limited. For children 18 months to 5 years old.

LEYENDO CON SUS CHIQUITOS

Saturday, April 14, 21 & 28 at 10am
This weekly workshop done entirely in Spanish will focus on how to use the five early literacy practices to nurture early literacy skills. Please register in advance. For children up to 3 years old.
Este taller semanal hecho completamente en español se enfocará en cómo usar las cinco prácticas de alfabetización temprana para nutrir las habilidades de alfabetización. Por favor regístrese antes del programa. Para niños hasta 3 años.

VOLUNTEERS FOR WILDLIFE: MEET THE ANIMALS

Saturday, April 14 at 3pm
Come meet some cold-blooded reptiles, furry mammals and feathered birds! Volunteers for Wildlife will be here to teach us about different types of animals and their characteristics. For children 4 years old up to 6th grade.

GRAHAM CRACKER FARM

FAMILY PAINT NITE
