5 Owls Harry Potter Reread

January will kick off the “5 Owls Harry Potter Reread” with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone! We will read a Harry Potter book each month from January to July 2020 when Harry Potter will turn 40! Book discussions will take place on our website (https://westburylibrary.org/childrens/) which is accessible 24/7. Whether this is your first time on this journey, or your 100th, we can’t wait to hear from you.


Toy Chest Mondays
Mondays, 10:30am – 11:30am

Spend the morning playing with your toddler! We’ll bring out the toy chest. For children 6 months to 4 years old.


Homework Help @ the Library!
Tuesdays, 4pm-5pm

Beginning January 7th, members of the Westbury High School National Honor Society will be available to assist children in grades K-8th with their homework questions. Sessions are on a first come, first serve basis. Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by a parent. This program will take place in the Adult Library Large Meeting Room.


Circle Time and Toy Center
Fridays, 10:30 – 11:30

For children ages 6 months to 4 years of age. 15 minutes of songs, finger plays and stories, plus some play time for you to share with your child. Meet other parents and caregivers.  There will be no Circle Time December 27th.


1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

This free program encourages you to read 1,000 books to your child before they enter kindergarten – a goal experts say children need to help them learn to read for themselves.  Read three picture books a night and you will finish the program within a year!  See a Children’s Librarian for more information.


100 Books Before 7th Grade

Finished with 1000 Books Before Kindergarten or looking to take on a new challenge? Join our new reading program for independent readers! For children in Kindergarten to 6th grade. See a Children’s librarian for more information.


Borrow, Bake, Enjoy!

Beginning in February, Westbury Library cardholders will be able to borrow specialty cake pans from the Children’s Library. Stop in to find out more information and browse our collection. Join us for the Cake Pan Kick-Off on February 1 at 2pm. Enjoy a sweet treat while supplies last

Special Events

Registration for January/February programs begin December 23.  Call or stop in to the Children’s Library to register for events.

Photographs and video footage taken during programs may be used for library publicity.  Please tell library staff if you do not want a photo taken of you or your child.


Creative Writing for Kids
Saturdays, January 4, 11, 18, 25 9:30am

Taught by Wellesley College student, Nefes Pirzada, this program aims to help children find their creative voices early on and learn about the beauty and benefit of creative writing in their lives. Please register in advance, space is limited. For children 3rd to 6th grade.


Drop-in Craft
Tuesday, January 14 and February 4 from 5 to 7pm

Stop by the library to make a craft! While supplies last. For children up to 6th grade.


Cozy Storytime
Thursday, January 16 & February 20 at 6:15pm

Find a cozy spot and listen to stories read by Ms. Liz. Geared towards children 4 years old to 2nd grade, but all are welcome to attend.


Just Bring the Baby
Wednesday, January 22 at 6:30pm

Add some more adult time to your week! Join librarians, Stephanie & Nicolette, to discuss November Road by Lou Berney and other current reads. Toys will be available for your little ones to play with while we chat. Please check out the book and register before our meeting. Baby and Me Cooking
Tuesday, January 28 at 10am

Toddlers will cook and explore foods using all of their senses! Recipes are no bake and easy to duplicate at home. When registering, please let us know of any food allergies your child may have. Please register in advance, space is limited. For children 16 months to 3 years old.


Crime Scene Investigators
Tuesday, January 28 at 6:30pm

Join the Long Island Science Center to search the scene for clues, analyze your findings, and interpret the evidence to identify a suspect. Please register in advance, space is limited. For children in 3rd to 6th grade.


Baby PlayHooray
Thursday, January 30 & Wednesday, February 26 at 10am

Spend the morning singing and dancing with PlayHooray! Please register in advance, space is limited. For children 6 to 18 months.


We Love Cake! – Family Cake Decorating Workshop
Tuesday, February 11 at 6:30pm

Show your family how much you love them by decorating a Valentine’s Day cake together!  The Baking Coach will be here to show you all the tips and techniques to making a delicious treat for the whole family.  For families with children up to 6th grade.  Each family will go home with one cake.  Please register in advance, space is limited.  P.S.—Did you know you can now borrow cake pans from the Children’s Library?!


Cuentos y Canciones: Bilingual Storytime

Come listen to stories read in Spanish and English followed by a craft at the library! Geared towards children 4 years old to 2nd grade, but all are welcome to attend.

Codebotics

The Long Island Science Center will be her to bring coding and robotics to life! Students have a fully hands-on experience of coding and seeing the results as their mini robot comes to life and obeys their commands. Please register in advance, space is limited. For children in 3rd to 6th grade.


STEAMpunks
Thursday, February 20 at 2pm

Come make a marshmallow shooter and test your aim! Please register in advance, space is limited. For children in Kindergarten to 6th grade.


Coloring for Connections
Friday, February 21 at 2pm

Illustrator Alexander Logue combines art and history in this upcoming workshop based on the work by Salvadoran artist, Fernando Llort. Children will recreate some of his most iconic works while also learning about the power and influence art can have on a community. Please register in advance, space is limited. For children in 2nd to 6th grade.
